In 2020, Geovale accomplished a Field Due Diligence Study of Iron Ore and Heavy Mineral Sand in Somaliland, for a Dubai based Mineral Trading Company. The study involved multiple site visits in and around Hargeisa, Sheikh and Berbera regions.

The regional geology of the area is characterized by Mesozoic to Quaternary sedimentary and volcanic sequences deposited unconformably on Middle to Early Proterozoic metamorphic and igneous rocks. The heavy mineral sand is sourced from the Proterozoic basement and deposited along the northern seacoast. Ironstones are hosted in Proterozoic granitic to mafic basement rocks.

The broad objectives of the study include:

  • High level understanding of the geology, mineralization and structure of the prospect areas
  • A high-level prognostication of exploration target potentialities
  • Recommendation on go/no-go for acquiring the permit and the next steps towards exploration and mining.

A team of Senior Geologists having significant experiences in African continent visited the prospect areas to study the geology, mineralization control and styles, potentiality of the mineral resources, infrastructure etc. Multiple samples collected and analysed in Internationally accredited laboratory.

Geovale prioritized all the prospect areas based on technicalities and recommended for stage gated exploration program in selected areas. The project was delivered within a timeline of 2 months.
